✨ Excited ✨ to share details on the FOAK Roundtable that's in Denver next week, May 2 5-7pm, around NREL IGF! I've thought about a million times on what would make a productive conversation around FOAK. How do you problem solve in this area and who do you bring in for that conversation? The more I thought about it, the more I come to just being able to speak to the founders that have gone through those journeys and can speak to what worked and what didn't. That's what this roundtable is about - having a back and forth with Trevor Best, Walker Dimmig, and Will Evans, folks that have first hand experience building companies with a FOAK story that have some insights to share on what has helped or is helping them cross that FOAK bridge. I hope that founders going through FOAK, investors interested in FOAK, people building something around FOAK, and other FOAK enthusiasts can join us and problem solve with us in real time on what patterns we can observe from these three pathways to FOAK success.Thank you to Jim Thorson at Free Radical Ventures for cohosting and for Timberline Strategies, Colorado Cleantech Industries Association, and Daniel Kriozere for supporting us!https://lnkd.in/dTzZYmuJ

Looks like a great event. Is it only in-person, or will there be a video link?

I look forward to reading about your key findings / talking points. We hardware driven climate tech startups will benefit from knowing more about which specific VCs are more prompt to fund FOAKs / small pilots ($5-$10M), which are a pre-requisite before building a utility grid scale commercial demonstration plant … our capital needs, as you know, are much higher than most other startups, thus reaching cash flow positive will take much longer.Thank you for looking for ways to help us “bridge the gap” of our Go2Mkt journeys :-)

Excited to be part of the launch of The Climate Brick, a big step forward in creating a common language for scaling climate tech. The team has worked very hard in identifying the common "bricks" or archetypes of climate tech startups and charting the milestones that define each brick's growth. It's an ongoing effort as more feedback comes in and the community continues to build on it - but I'm excited about what a great starting point this is for discussion. There are seven bricks: ✅ Gigascaling: scaling up large FOAK plants✅ Green deployment: proliferating assets like solar, wind, and batteries✅ Assets as a service: scaling new "as a service" software / business models attached to assets like city scooters✅ Product disruption - creating new green products like EVs and sustainable clothing ✅ New technology - creating tech like carbon capture for lowering the carbon footprint of existing supply chains✅ Moonshot - proving and scaling revolutionary technologies like fusion ✅ Companion software - software-focused solutions for things like grid optimization Read the open letter and join me in being a signatory! Letter: https://lnkd.in/dGsReM9nSign the letter: https://climatebrick.com/Congrats to EQT Ventures, Contrarian Ventures, and for spearheading this effort and creating something that I think will be an amazing resource for climate tech ecosystems everywhere 🌟🌎🌟

Thrilled to share some FOAK ideas with old and new friends at the happy hour earlier this week. We talked about re-defining FOAK & the components of what makes a FOAK project, capital solutions like tax credit financing and FOAK-focused funds, human capital solutions like utilizing vendor talent and getting bought in from EPCs, offtaker solutions like buyers' clubs, and tech validation solutions like third party testing sites. Thanks to Jason Ethier and the Energy Tech Nexus for co-hosting with V1 Climate Solutions during #CERAweek.

Our FOAK happy hour is TODAY at the Energy Tech Innovator Lounge at 5pm. RSVP if you haven't already! Depending on who's there, I'm thinking of discussing/whiteboarding with the group: ✅ Diagramming different investment structures for FOAK✅ Defining technology readiness for FOAK✅ Discussing individual participants' concerns and problems with FOAK✅ Sharing interests in FOAK and how to get market to increasingly support this asset class There will be light snacks and drinks. Come and have fun with us talking all things FOAK!Jason Ethier
